New eats and treats coming soon to Northeast Seattle (UPDATE)

Our favorite kind of news? NEW RESTAURANT NEWS.

And we have LOTS.

Coming soon, to the old Pied Piper Alehouse space (2404 NE 65th St) is…

a Patty’s Eggnest.

There are currently nine Patty’s Eggnest locations in Washington State, all of which are independently owned and operated. Patty’s specializes in breakfast. So much so that their Eggs Benedict have their OWN MENU. NINE different kinds, people.

Here’s more about their menu, from the About page:

We serve delicious, hearty meals made to order and made from scratch with fresh, choice ingredients. In a comfortable, family-friendly atmosphere, we’ll be happy to fill your table with home-cooked breakfast favorites. Fresh-squeezed orange juice, Swedish pancakes, scrumptious scrambles, and hearty chicken-fried steak are just some of the dishes that we feature on our menu at all locations. We also feature tasty lunches, like hot delicious sandwiches, big burgers with seasoned fries, and fresh salads. For several of our locations, we are open for dinner hours as well, serving fresh roasted turkey dinners and soup made-from-scratch.

Headed into some of the new restaurant space in the new south building at University Village is a new restaurant by Beecher’s Cheese Head, Kurt Dammeier: Liam’s.

Via Eater Seattle, Dammeier says:

We’ll serve all Northwest wine and our basic food I describe as ‘upscale homestyle’ — mostly dishes that are familiar or reasonably familiar to a suburban crowd, but made better.

Dammeier is also the guy behind Pasta & Co., which already has a home at University Village.

That same Eater piece claims that “a Joey’s and a Din Tai Fung will also be moving in.” That’s a lot of restaurants. But with 24,626 sq. ft. of restaurant space available in that new building, anything is possible.

Over in the Laurelhurst direction, Bill the Butcher is getting a new, unlikely neighbor:

Violet Sweet Shoppe, a vegan bakery and cafe, plans to open along NE 45th Street in May. If you’d like to help them along, financially, they’ve got a Kickstarter going.

The old Casa D’Italia location (2615 NE 65th St) has been leased again, to a business under the name “Conception Hermosillo” (according to records with the Washington State Liquor Control Board).

But this is about all we know so far. TO BE CONTINUED.

The overlap section of a hypothetical Northeast Seattle Venn diagram of “Cloud City Coffee” and “Magnuson Park” will be excited about this last one.

Another find from the Washington State Liquor Control Board’s list of new liquor license applicants: CLOUD CITY SAND POINT.

O RLY? What’s the address? “6327 NE 74TH ST?”

Hey, that’s inside Magnuson Park! What’s that address look like right now?

Oh my.

Let’s zoom out.

I don’t think it’s ready yet, do you?

Another one for the TO BE CONTINUED pile. We’ll contact Cloud City and Seattle Parks and Recreation on this one and report back.

UPDATE (5:35 PM): We’ve heard back from one of the Sand Point Tennis Center managers, Scott Marshall, who said, “Cloud City will be the cafe operator inside of our 6-court building. We are extremely excited about this partnership.”

Patty’s Egg Nest is so awful! I’m really disappointed that this great space on 65th and 25th is being taken by them. The Ravenna/Roosevelt area is in need of a great breakfast spot and Patty’s Egg’s Nest is not it!

  2. Interesting all the breakfast competition. Harissa is doing weekend breakfasts now, and we have our old standby, The Varsity. Vios has good breakfast. Mama mia! I’d love a good healthy food place and a tiny local neighborhood grocery that has the basics plus fabulous take out food.

Now, where can I find a bottle of the Jasmine beer my son brought home last week. I’ll stay in in this rain!

  3. I’m still wanting some version of Bakery Nouveau or Columbia City Bakery in our neighborhood! Why, oh why can’t we have our own awesome bakery?

    • Mindy Kelly says:

Bakery Nouveau is opening in Capitol Hill at the John Court building on 15th & John, hopefully next week! It’s not Ravenna, but certainly much closer than West Seattle!

    • We do have awesome bakeries! Try Cafe Kopi!

    • For a great bakery, roll downhill into Lake City and try Kaffeeklatsch, just north of 125th on west side of LCW–it is wonderful, with new offerings all the time.

    ‘upscale homestyle’

    Oxymoron.

Bakery in the NE sector:  60th Street Dessert on Sand Point around 72nd — wonderful desserts, tarts, cakes, etc.  Super.

Looks like we at the Bryant Coner Cafe & Bakery need to show the Ravenna community that we mean business, Bakery and breakfast businees that is. Changes, they are coming.

I saw this post and thought – hmmm – I haven’t been to that spot in years. I’m sorry to say that my wife and I both thought the food was mediocre and the service was below par. Maybe it was just a bad day at there, but I think in the future when we decide to go out for Sunday breakfast, we’ll make the drive to Portage Bay Cafe.

      • Dejeuner says:

Couldn’t agree more. The location is nice, and I would love to go there more but the food is really not that good either and the service is terrible. My wife and I have been there many times and have always been disappointed. Also, the decor is awful, that place really needs a complete makeover. It does look clean at all. I haven’t seen the kitchen but I can’t imagine it would be much better.
I agree that Portage Bay Cafe is way better, so is Vios.

As someone else said, it would be great to have a nice bakery (e.g. grand central, bakery nouveau or Essential Baking Co) where they serve real (french style) bread.

Also, how about a nice ice cream shop too!

As the owner of the Bryant corner cafe and bakery i would like to pass along that we strive to do the best we can in both food and service. The last month we totally went crazy with the inside of the dining room, fresh paint, new art and a new, updated feel. All of our food is made in house and sometime we goof up but i take great pride in the food. I really do appreciate the feedback. It helps us to know where we need to improve. We want to be a great spot for a good meal in the Bryant area and with your help and support, we will.

  7. Thanks for all the useful information, plus good info in the comments. I would be up for a breakfast crawl if it’s on a weekend. I would love to meet some neighbors.

  8. Yeah, I think Ravenna could have done better too. We’re good on mediteranean food AND breakfast already. I guess I’m happy the new businesses are local, though.

  9. Roosevelt Dad says:

I love ‘Cloud City’, the coffee, and the people. It will be a wonderful addition to the new tennis center, making it a destination for multiple reasons.

We were just at the Varsity restaurant for breakfast. On 65th & 23rd . Our local hangout on the weekends. I say lets support the small family ran place that’s been there over 50 years. We had the California Benedict and the homemade Cinnamon roll today. Very tasty.

  11. larry&lisa says:

We tried Patty’s Eggnest and found the food to be mediocre a la Denny’s. We much prefer the Varsity where we’ve been going for years. Food is great and the people are wonderful!

After wretched Eggs Benedict at Patty’s Eggnest at Northgate I don’t think I’ll ever eat at a Patty’s Eggnest again. Good to know they’re independently owned though. I felt vindicated when I had Eggs Benedict at the now apparently closed Sunflour Cafe. I really liked Sunflour. I’ll give Bryant a try. I still miss Leah’s.

  13. My spouse and I stumbled over here by a different web address and thought I might as well check
things out. I like what I see so i am just following you. Look forward to exploring your web
    page for a second time.
