Upcoming post idea and comments

ARRRRRRR

Two metablog topics for this post: one of which NEEDS your input, and one of which is ABOUT your input.

Ravenna’s Blogs

I’ve been slowly compiling a list of blogs written in/around the Ravenna area.  Most of them are listed in the Blogroll on the right side of the page (scroll down, scroll down). But I’d like to do a series of posts that promote them a little better than that.

If there are any local-to-Ravenna blogs that you follow, or even write yourself, and you would like to see them in a future “Ravenna’s Blogs” post, shoot me an email with the link(s).  The subject matter is incidental — it’s just nice to see what your neighbors are passionate about*.

Ravenna Blog’s Comments

I would LOVE to see more of you commenting on posts. And by more, I mean some. But I think the absence of comments is much more the blog’s fault than yours.

When I’m at someone else’s site and want to leave a comment, and I end up having to register at that specific site just to leave my one comment, I am about 100 times more likely to just say nothing and move on.

Unfortunately for me (and you), that’s exactly the comment system I’m using right now.

In the coming days, I’ll be playing around with different WordPress comment plugins to make post conversation easier. The one I’m likely to use is the one that My Green Lake and the Roosevelt Neighborhood Blog are using, which allows users to login with existing accounts (ex. facebook, twitter, Yahoo ID).

This switch-over may mean that old comments and logins are lost, but I think it will be worth it in the long run.

There’s also a new comment-inducing technique I’m going to start trying:

What do you think about the Ravenna Blog switching to a new comment plugin? Would an easier login system make you more likely to leave a comment on a blog post? Leave a comment below!

    Hi Rebecca,

I am the community manager for Livefyre, an embeddable comment system just as you’re describing above! 🙂 You can sign in with social networks and share comments with your friends.

We are in private beta at the moment and I’d love to send you an invite to try it out. It will import all of your old comments and syncs with the WordPress database. It only takes a few minutes to setup. Sign up for your blog at http://livefyre.com

Feel free to e-mail me if you have any question at jenna@livefyre.com. Thanks!

Thanks for contacting the blog, Jenna!
I’ve looked at Livefyre’s features and at a couple sites using it, but decided to go with Disqus for now. If Ravenna Blog ever gets more traffic, however, I will definitely try you guys out. The live chat aspect intrigues me.
    Thanks again for your help!

  4. I read the blog, I’m just not good at commenting. Chalk it up to laziness!

While technically she’s not in Ravenna because some map says it’s one block from our border, I still recommend http://fattychow.wordpress.com for another food blog!

Um, you have a few things going on in your life right now. Imma let you off the hook. 🙂

Yes! I shall add her to the list. Her last post was in January, though. She’d better put something up soon, so we don’t think she’s dead (and tweeting from the grave).

  6. oooh. . . I will kick her blogging butt into gear.

  7. Yeah! What’s HER excuse, eh? Go get her.

  8. It may take another generation, Rebecca, for commenting on blog articles to get a hold. People have read the paper for the last two hundred years and said, I”m going to write to the editor about that” and I bet only 1% ever do.
So blog away and I will too. We are the newspapers of the future. Local news that we want to print. Readers who eventually find us will one day comment.

  9. I’m a little more hopeful, especially about the time line. For me, anyway. 🙂

More people are learning that the Ravenna Blog exists. I’m learning some good tricks (currently reading through the back posts on hyperlocalblogger.com and learning SO much), and I’m certainly getting out into the community more.

I keep telling myself that the foundation is where it’s at, and the rest will come. And until then I gotta find good stuff to write about and put more flyers on poles.

I will say, though, that the local blogger community — yourself included — has been very helpful and encouraging. I hope I can do the same in return.

  10. Disqus automatically made that hyperlink for HLB! Awesome!

And I can edit my previous comments! Also great!

  11. He restored my broken relationship just in 48 hours.

    This result is 100% guarantee,

    Get Your Ex Boyfriend/Girlfriend Back!

certainly the best online…robin sonbu ckler11 (At) gm ail c om,

    Thank you!!
